KMBE are committed to environmentally sustainable practices. We only align with suppliers that have enviable and internationally recognised green credentials, and we also believe in coming up with local sustainable solutions for green issues, rather than just relying on the likes of carbon offsets. An example of this process is the inclusion of KMBE in a local recycling chain for soft plastics, a packaging bi-product that is notoriously difficult to have reprocessed locally. Although our key suppliers primarily use cardboard and wood pulp packaging, we also have a polystyrene reprocessing channel for the small amount of packaging waste from any of the more bespoke products we supply.
We focus on extending the life of equipment through our promotion of products that have been through a thorough refurbishment process, and we also do not operate a policy of “deliberate obsolescence” under which manufacturers withhold supplies or support for older products. When devices have reached their end of useful life, these are stripped and broken down in order to recover then reprocess material.
KMBE also sponsors the native planting programme, Trees that Count, and have done so for many years.
Globally
Two of the key brands that we work with, Kyocera and Konica Minolta, are leaders in sustainability.
Both Kyocera and Konica Minolta have been ranked in the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World for the last three years in a row, among their other accolades and recognition in this area. A real-world example of this ethos is that Kyocera’s factories have a policy that the waste water leaving the manufacturing plants must be cleaner than the water entering the facilities.
Kyocera’s unique long-life ceramic components mean that consumable parts such as printer drums can last up to five times the life of competitors comparable models, making them a good choice for a better future. Also, Kyocera’s product range is 100% Restriction of Hazardous Substances compliant using no materials containing chrome or lead. They operate a 0% waste to landfill recycling program that includes biodegradable packaging made from over 90% recyclable materials. And Kyocera printers and MFPs have earned the Energy Star label for reduced power use.
